GALECA — The Society of LGBTQ Entertainment Critics — has made a historic announcement: Diane Anderson-Minshall, former CEO of Pride Media, will serve as its new executive director. She steps into this role alongside an inspiring and diverse new board of directors.
Anderson-Minsshall is set to become the first woman at the helm of this influenced LGBTQ journalism organization — a milestone that understands her decades-long dedication to amplifying queer voices in media. As a journalist, editor, and author, she has left an indelible mark on LGBTQ storytelling through her leadership at iconic publications such as Out, The Advocate, Out Traveler, andPride.com. Her editorial journey also includes transformative roles at GO, Curve, Girlffriends, Alice, Plus, QSF, Passport, and the groundbreaking On Our Backs.
Her contributions have not gone unnoticed. Among her many honors are multiple GLAAD Media Awards, accolades from NLGJA (The Association of LGBTQ Journalists), and the prestigious 2016 Golden Crown Award for her compelling memoir — all testaments to her impact across both print and digital landscapes.
“I’m thrilled to step into this role and work with our incredible board members, and the broader creative community to continue amplifying LGBTQ stories,” said Anderson-Minshal in a GALECA press release. “We have exciting plans to elevate the work of our critics, celebrate representation, and connect with audiences in new ways.”
With this appointment comes another significant shift: GALECA’s founder, John Griffiths, will be stepping back from daily operations. Griffiths founded the organization in 2009 with a bold vision — to create a space where critics could spotlight and champion LGBTQ narratives in entertainment without compromise.
“John’s imprint on GALECA and LGBTQ media at large is indelible,” said Anderson-Minshall. “I’m honored to continue his legacy while ushering in a new chapter focused on growth, innovation, and even deeper engagement with both audiences and creators.”
Under Anderson-Minshall’s leadership, GALECA’s 2025–2027 Board of Directors promises to be one of its most dynamic yet. Pulitzer Prize-winning writer Walter Hickey returns for what he calls “his final term” as president — a bittersweet farewell to a figure who helped shape the organization’s critical voice. Author and journalist Gerrick Kennedy joins as vice president, bringing fresh insightand cultural depth to the table. Reuben Baron, writer and actor known for his work on “Looper,” takes the reins as treasurer, while Grace Han of Asian Movie Pulse returns for her last term as secretary.
International journalist Triston Brewer continues his impactful work as diversity director, ensuring underrepresented voices remain central to GALECA’s mission. Jorgie Rodriguez of POC Culture steps in as membership director, reflecting the group’s commitment to inclusion and interaction. And culture writer Shelli Nicole joins as outreach and social media director, poised to bridge the gap betweencritics and the ever-evolving digital audience.
This is more than just a leadership change — it's a turning point for GALECA. A moment of reflection, renewal, and recommendation to telling LGBTQ stories with nuance, integrity, and heart.
