It's ABC's moment to shine. The network is proudly showcasing its impressive performance among adults aged 18-49 as Nielsen embarks on its first year of expansive multiplatform ratings, which now include both linear and streaming data. This new approach continues to bring encouraging news for broadcast networks.
Just as CBS celebrated a significant achievement last week in the overall total viewer space, ABC is now declaring victory in the adults 18-49 demographic with its original broadcast entertainment series. (It’s worth noting that sports programming, which significantly boosts linear viewership numbers, has been excluded from these figures.) According to ABC, their multiplatform 7 average rating this season stands at an impressive 1.09, surpassing CBS (0.87), NBC (0.73), and Fox (0.69).
“It’s incredibly refreshing and empowering to have measurement tools that truly capture how people consume television in today’s modern era,” expressed Craig Erwich, president of Disney Television Group. “This validation underscores the strength of the Disney ecosystem. With multiple platforms at our disposal, we can strategically place our shows across various channels while creating singular cultural events that resonate with audiences. Our dominance in the top five shows within the 18-49 demographic in multiplatform ratings is no accident. These are exceptional shows that have been meticulously marketed. Our focus has always been on making these shows massive hits, and these ratings serve as a testament to our efforts.”
Among their notable achievements, ABC highlights its dominance in the top five programs in the 18-49 demographic with "High Potential," "Abbott Elementary," "The Rookie," "9-1-1," and "Shifting Gears." Additionally, nine out of the top 20 programs include "Will Trent," "Grey’s Anatomy," "Dancing with the Stars," and "The Bachelor."
Notably, "High Potential" ranks as ABC's highest-rated freshman drama in seven years since "The Good Doctor," while "Shifting Gears" marks the network's best first-season comedy in six years since "The Conners."
Here are ABC’s rankings, aligned with its fall programming announcement. (It’s important to note that CBS’ total viewer ranking last week was based on multiplatform 35 days, whereas this 18-49 ranking uses multiplatform 7, making them not entirely comparable.)
“'High Potential' is undoubtedly the story of the year,” Erwich emphasized. “When examining the multiplatform ratings this year, it achieves nearly double the ratings of 'Matlock.' It stands shoulder-to-shoulder with the giants of current television. I believe the momentum of this show will only continue to grow. We were deeply committed to 'Will Trent,' and it remains one of the few broadcast shows that has shown consistent year-over-year growth. I anticipate you'll witness the same trajectory with 'High Potential.'”
