Chuck Lorre, the mastermind behind some of television's most beloved comedies, is taking a bold step into the world of streaming with his latest multi-camera creation. Bypassing traditional broadcast television altogether, Netflix has announced that Leanne will premiere on Thursday, July 31. In a move that caters to the modern binge-watching audience, all 16 episodes will be available at once.
This half-hour comedy, co-created by Lorre, Susan McMartin (Mom, Two and a Half Men), and stand-up comedian Leanne Morgan, centers around the titular character, played by Morgan herself. The official synopsis reveals an emotional journey as "Leanne’s life takes an unexpected turn when Bill, her husband of 33 years (played by Two and a Half Men’s Ryan Stiles), leaves her for another woman." This dramatic upheaval forces Leanne to start anew, navigating the complexities of life as a grandmother and a woman in menopause—a chapter she never imagined for herself. With the unwavering support of her family, including Mom’s Kristen Johnston as her sister Carol, Leanne embarks on this new chapter with grace, dignity, and a touch of humor—always accompanied by her trusty jello salad.
The ensemble cast further enriches the story, featuring Blake Clark (Boy Meets World) and Celia Weston (Modern Family) as Leanne’s parents, John and Margaret; Graham Rogers (The Kominsky Method) and Hannah Pilkes (Would I Lie to You) as her adult children, Tyler and Josie; and recurring guest stars Tim Daly (Wings), Jayma Mays (Glee), Annie Gonzalez (Gentefied), and Blake Gibbons (Bookie). Behind the scenes, Lorre, McMartin, and Morgan executive-produce alongside Nick Bakay (Bob Hearts Abishola, Bookie, The Kominsky Method, Mom, Two and a Half Men, Young Sheldon) and Judi Marmel (Bookie).
