Nicole Kidman Is Kay Scarpetta, Jamie Lee Curtis Her Sister in First Look at Patricia Cornwell Thriller Adaptation

With a keen eye and unwavering determination, Nicole Kidman embodies the role of medical examiner Kay Scarpetta, bringing to life the intricate world of Patricia Cornwell’s beloved novels in Prime Video's highly anticipated adaptation. In this first glimpse, Kidman delves into the heart of Scarpetta's complex world, unraveling mysteries both personal and professional.

In the captivating 45-second teaser from Prime Video, viewers catch a fleeting moment of Kidman as Scarpetta, followed by an equally intriguing appearance by Academy Award and Emmy winner Jamie Lee Curtis, portraying Kay’s sister Dorothy. The chemistry between these two powerhouse actresses promises to deliver a narrative rich with emotional depth and suspense.

Greenlit for series production last September, this mystery-thriller stars the illustrious Nicole Kidman, whose portrayal of Kay Scarpetta is set against the backdrop of her return to Virginia and her former career. Amidst a web of complicated relationships, including that with her sister Dorothy, Scarpetta navigates the delicate balance between her professional duties and personal loyalties.

The ensemble cast further enriches the narrative with Academy Award winner Ariana DeBose (West Side Story) as Lucy Farinelli-Watson, Dorothy’s daughter; Bobby Cannavale (Boardwalk Empire) as ex-detective Pete Marino; Simon Baker (The Mentalist) as FBI profiler Benton Wesley; Rosy McEwen (The Alienist) as the younger version of Kay Scarpetta; and Jake Cannavale, Bobby’s real-life son, playing the younger Pete Marino.

Recurring roles are filled by Sosie Bacon (Mare of Easttown) as reporter Abby Turnball, Janet Montgomery (New Amsterdam) as Lucy’s wife Janet, Stephanie Faracy (Nobody Wants This) as Kay’s assistant Maggie, Mike Vogel (Under the Dome) as city attorney Bill Boltz, and Amanda Righetti (The Mentalist) as the younger Dorothy.

Kay Scarpetta, known for her love of tagliatelle bolognese, was first introduced in Cornwell's 1990 novel Postmortem. Since then, she has graced nearly 30 novels, most recently Identity Unknown, released last autumn, with Sharp Force scheduled for an October 2025 debut.

Nicole Kidman and Jamie Lee Curtis, whose Comet Pictures secured the rights to the Kay Scarpetta novels in 2021, join Patricia Cornwell, writer/showrunner Liz Sarnoff (Barry), Jason Blum, Jeremy Gold, Chris Dickie, Chris McCumber, Per Saari, David Gordon Green, and Amy Sayres as executive producers on the series.

Scarpetta, already renewed for Season 2, commenced filming in Nashville last October and concluded in March. While the release date remains undisclosed, anticipation continues to build for this compelling adaptation.

``` This revised version emphasizes emotional depth, character intricacies, and the allure of the story, while maintaining a structured and engaging format.
