During its upfronts presentation, Netflix unveiled plans for two new series: “All the Sinners Bleed” and “The Body,” each promising to captivate audiences with their unique narratives and compelling characters.
“All the Sinners Bleed” is a nine-episode adaptation of S.A. Cosby’s gripping thriller novel. The story delves into the life of the first Black Sheriff in a small Bible Belt county, whose personal demons—stemming from his troubled past with the FBI and the untimely death of his devout mother—fuel his relentless pursuit of justice. Haunted by these shadows, he embarks on a harrowing quest to unmask a serial killer who has been preying on Black communities in Southern Virginia under the guise of divine retribution. This tale promises to be a powerful exploration of faith, loss, and redemption.
Leading the creative team is Joe Robert Cole, co-writer of “Black Panther,” who will serve as showrunner and direct the premiere as well as several other episodes. The project boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Cosby, Amblin Television, and Higher Ground. Netflix and Higher Ground have previously collaborated on acclaimed projects such as the sports docuseries “Starting 5,” “Bodkin,” “Leave the World Behind,” “American Symphony,” “Rustin,” and “Working: What We Do All Day.”
In contrast, “The Body” offers a fresh perspective with its coming-of-age drama crafted by Quinn Shephard. The series explores the chaotic aftermath of a botched dance-team initiation, where a group of unruly Catholic schoolgirls begin experiencing prophetic visions that ignite mass hysteria within their town. It's a story that weaves together themes of rebellion, spirituality, and self-discovery against the backdrop of a small-town crisis.
Shephard not only created the series but also takes on the role of showrunner and director for the premiere and additional episodes. Executive producers include Amy Israel, Peter Chernin, and Josh Stern for North Road, alongside Riley Keough, Gina Gammell, and Sacha Ben Harroche for Felix Culpa. Netflix and Chernin Entertainment have recently partnered on projects like “Back in Action,” “The Madness,” the upcoming thriller “Apex,” “11817,” the latest installment of the “Fear Street” franchise, the forthcoming “Man on Fire” series, and the adaptation of “The Age of Innocence.”
