Sharon Stone has long been a steadfast supporter of her dear friend and fellow actor, Eric Dane.
Recently, at the premiere of Nobody 2, Sharon opened up to Entertainment Tonight, recalling the early days when she stood by Eric as his “support staff” during his audition for HBO’s hit series Euphoria. Earlier this year, Eric shared with the world that he had been diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a condition that continues to shape his journey.
“Eric and I have been friends for a long time. A very, very long time,” Sharon said, her voice filled with warmth and emotion. “Back then, I was more than just a friend—I was his support system. He’d come over to my house, bring gluten-free cookies, and we’d sit together, talking through every detail. That role on Euphoria means so much to him.”
She continued, obviously moved: “It means the world to me that he got that job—just in time, before everything changed.”
Now, the two longtime friends are set to reunite on screen in the upcoming third season of Euphoria. Eric will reprise his role as Cal Jacobs, the enigmatic patriarch of the Jacobs family, while Sharon is rumored to take on a mysterious new character. Eric first introduced Cal in Season One back in 2019.
In April, the former Grey’s Anatomy star bravely revealed his ALS diagnosis, stating: “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we navigate this next chapter.” Although the challenges ahead, he remained resolute: “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and me privacy during this time.”
According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS—also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease—is a progressive nervous system disorder that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. It leads to the gradually loss of muscle control and worsens over time. Currently, there is no known cure.
By June, the reality of the disease had begun to show. In an emotional interview with Diane Sawyer, Eric shared that he had already lost function in his right arm and was beginning to feel weakness creeping into his left side and legs. “It’s sobering,” he admitted quietly—a reflection not only of his physical struggle but also the emotional weight he carries.
Through it all, Eric remains surrounded by love. He shares two teenage children with his wife, Rebecca Gayheart, whose presence continues to be a source of strength in this difficult chapter of their lives.
